DENNIS CHAN, FOUNDER AND CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF QEELIN

Recognised as one of the most influential Chinese jewellery designers, Dennis Chan has received numerous international design honours, including accolades from The Chartered Society of Designers, Japan G Mark, the Singapore Design Awards and Maison & Objet Paris. His works have been exhibited at the Louvre in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, reflecting his artistic accomplishment and international influence. In 2004, driven by a vision to share the beauty of the East with the world, Dennis founded Qeelin. As the first Chinese fine jewellery Maison to establish a presence on Place Vendôme in Paris, Qeelin reinterprets auspicious Chinese symbols and cultural heritage through contemporary design, bringing new life and meaning to Chinese culture. Believing that design knows no boundaries, Dennis continues to explore the dialogue between tradition and modernity, East and West. Through Qeelin, he transforms cultural symbols into modern fine jewellery creations, allowing the spirit and beauty of Chinese heritage to shine on the international stage.

ORIGIN AND INNOVATION
Qeelin reinterprets Eastern cultural symbols through a contemporary design language, transforming fine jewellery into a medium for preserving and celebrating the beauty of Oriental culture. — Each creation is not only deeply connected to modern lifestyles and aesthetics, but also carries a rich cultural heritage that transcends time, embodying an enduring appeal across generations.
DUNHUANG, WHERE WHERE EAST MEETS WEST
CULTURAL HERITAGE INFUSED WITH MODERNITY
The Silk Road was one of the world’s earliest international trade routes. Between the 3rd and 8th centuries, Dunhuang stood as a vital crossroads connecting East and West, where diverse cultures converged and flourished. The murals and Buddhist sculptures within its grottoes bear witness to centuries of cultural exchange and artistic dialogue, offering a magnificent tribute to human civilization. In 1997, Dennis Chan, Founder and Creative Director of Qeelin, visited the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang for the first time. Deeply inspired by the splendor of this ancient cultural legacy, he was struck by a powerful question: Why was there no jewellery Maison capable of capturing the essence of Eastern cultural symbols while seamlessly blending Eastern and Western aesthetics for the international stage? Qeelin became his answer.
“Passing jewellery down from generation to generation is a universal tradition. We have always sought to preserve and pass on our culture, and I hope to leave behind precious memories for Chinese people and for the world,” says Dennis Chan. As five thousand years of Chinese culture meet the twenty-first century, Qeelin draws upon a rich cultural heritage and reinterprets it through the lens of contemporary aesthetics, allowing tradition to evolve with grace and relevance. Through its jewellery creations, Qeelin seeks to empower its wearers, bringing smiles, wonder and blessings while breathing new life into Eastern culture. In doing so, the Maison allows its enduring spirit and timeless beauty to shine on the international stage.
PHILOSOPHY AND HERITAGE
A Philosophy of Balance and Harmony at the Heart of Every Creation
In the world of Qeelin, the philosophy of balance and harmony lies at the heart of the Maison’s design ethos. Deeply rooted in Chinese culture, it reflects the profound wisdom of traditional Chinese philosophy. Yin and Yang represent the complementary forces that shape the universe and maintain its natural equilibrium. Though seemingly contrasting, these forces coexist in harmony, echoing the balance and sense of well-being sought by people today. Every Qeelin creation draws inspiration from traditional Chinese symbols and auspicious meanings, reinterpreted through a contemporary design language and infused with renewed vitality. By striking a balance between heritage and innovation, and creating a dialogue between Eastern culture and modern aesthetics, Qeelin celebrates the harmonious beauty of artistry and craftsmanship.
SYMBOLISM
Through the contemporary reinterpretation of Eastern cultural symbols, Qeelin continues to push the boundaries of design and creativity. Playfulness, humour and originality form the foundation of the Maison’s identity and design language, setting Qeelin apart with a distinctive character all its own.
WULU
As Qeelin’s most iconic collection, Wulu transforms the auspicious symbolism of the hulu, representing blessings and prosperity, into a contemporary jewellery icon. In pursuit of the perfect silhouette, Dennis refined and adjusted the proportions countless times, ultimately creating its signature form through elegantly simple lines. Balancing heritage and modernity, while merging innovation with harmony, Wulu transcends the boundaries of time, culture and art to become Qeelin’s most recognizable emblem.
